As we draw closer to Spring, the sun is beginning to set later, the days are becoming slightly warmer, and shops are already advertising their Spring collections while trying to rid their shelves of all things Winter. And as we begin to experience the changes, some of us make the mistake of leaving the house without a jacket or jersey, not bearing in mind that we are merely in transition. And just like the seasons transition into each other, so to does everyday life!
We all want to go somewhere, try something new, become something, let go of things, pick up new habits, achieve our goals, cross things off a bucket list and be the best people we imagine ourselves to be; which is why we are constantly on the move. But how do we know when it is time to move on and step into the next stage in our lives. When do we become aware that we have been holding onto something much longer than we were meant to? Being a Christian, the idea of going through seasons in life is no foreign idea and we know that God positions us in places, and among people for a purpose. But there comes a time when we are called to move on and allow God to lead us into the next season. This can be as significant as joining an outreach programme in your community or taking on more responsibility at work or church. Or it can be a big step such as changing careers and going back to school to finally pursue what you are called to do. And with these changes comes new habits which facilitate the growth we are undergoing. However, a common mistake we tend to make is reverting to old habits or looking back at what once was in an attempt to find some level of comfort amidst uncharted territory. And we do not realise that we are distracting ourselves from what lies ahead, preventing ourselves from becoming what we were supposed to be! No matter the type of transition we are experiencing, we need to settle our minds in that discomfort, uncertainty or newness and allow the process to occur.
And while the season is in a transitional phase, do not make the mistake of thinking that the freezing nights and cold fronts are behind us. Keep your cardigans and scarves close-by to throw on when the warmness dissipates into cold air. On such days, garments like poncho’s are well-suited for the transition as they are light enough for the warmer days, and warm enough for the cooler afternoons. In this outfit, I paired my Plaid Maroon Poncho with my denim-on-denim ensemble, and Navy Blue Pumps, for a ‘genteel’ look.
