As young girls, we dressed ourselves in a way that we would not dress today. This is either because fashion trends have changed, or because we did not have much freedom to purchase new outfits on a regular basis, thus having a limited wardrobe. I think it is also fair to say that the main reason our styles have changed is because the clothes we wore back then, represented a personality that may not represent who we are now. Like many other women, I look back at photographs of me in my adolescence and I am soooo grateful that my taste in fashion and style has matured over the years. However, there are certain styles of clothing which I loved in my youth which, till this day, I put on a pedestal. And one of these my friends are Flare Skirts.

Growing up, I always fancied a flare skirt mainly because they were worn to special occasions, which was the perfect opportunity to doll-up and look 'out of the ordinary'. The skirts were also worn on Sunday's when going to church or formal gatherings, where you would see people you had not seen in ages. Flare skirts were the easiest way to achieve the 'lady-like' look and from a young age, I associated these skirts with dressing up and looking my best. Fast forward to today, where I am always in a pair of jeans or jogger pants; wearing a flare skirt is the opportunity to express the 'little girl in me'. Flare skirts can be both a casual fit and a former wear with the latter being my preferred option. The best part of flare skirts is the A-line silhouette which accommodates your waistline and hips, showing your body off in a classy way.

I must say though, this flare skirt is definitely a step-up from the skirts I was wearing as a young girl. This floral print is against the polyester fabric which has a glossy black hue especially in the light. Furthermore, the skirt adds an elegance or fancy feel to the overall outfit. And I have found that wearing flare skirts with a fitted top is the best way to avoid a wide silhouette. With going through life experiences and the change in fashion trends; society often restricts women in the garments they can and cannot wear. Getting older does not necessarily mean that you are too grown for certain garments that bring out your personality. I believe that your fashion sense or style can extend to the items of clothing that show another dimension of your personality. It is the way you don those outfits that counts.

According to my mother, I used to be quite the fashionista when I was young and I would change my outfit the minute it got ruined by a stain. I am not going to lie when I look back at old pics I do look like I had some young taste in fashion haha and I don't know where that all went as I grew older. . . I love the entire outfit here first of all and the skirt looks so gorgeous on you ❤️
