So...we all have that one item-you know! That one thing that you just have to buy but cannot afford. That one item where if you stare at it long enough, your financial situation might just change. Well for me, that one item is the 'Shopper bag with scarf detail and inner bag' from Foschini. It was late 2019 when I walked into Foschini to see what was in store, when I spotted the bag at the corner of my eye. I closed my eyes for a split second to transition from the tops I was looking at, opened my eyes and immediately began the power walk toward the bags section. The bag had short, sturdy, gold metal handles with enough cushioning to bring comfort to your hands. The base of the handle was decorated with a small silk scarf tied around it, giving rich Aunty vibes to any woman who had the pleasure of having it.

After spending a few minutes of admiring the bag and being ready to walk with it to the tellers, I turned the price tag around and was struck with disappointment as the price was R 499. At the time, I could not justify spending that amount on a handbag which would have been used on special occasions. Furthermore, the colour of the bag in store was yellow, and it was the good kind of yellow. The realisation that I could not purchase the bag that I had already fallen in love with was seriously disappointing. Till this day, I often think about this yellow bag and the places I could have gone to with it. This bag has lived rent free in my mind.

I still picture myself pairing the yellow bag with a denim-on-denim outfit, and blue camouflage heels. Or rocking it with a black jumpsuit and an open heel. Although I did not purchase this yellow beauty, I am happy with the small collection of handbags and cross-body bags I currently have, which compliment my outfits. For many women, handbags need to be functional in order to safely keep their belongings when moving from one place to another. Thus, bags are considered less of a big deal. Whereas for other women, the handbag is more than just an item that carries your things. It is part of the outfit! I consider myself to fall within both categories and I had hoped that this handbag would have been added to the collection. Unfortunately, it wasn't so and that my dear friends, was the bag that got away! Do you have any memorable bags or something else that you could not purchase because the pocket did not allow???
