Rewriting the Trends of the Past

Every generation has its own way of doing things… saying things… and seeing things! And each generation is raised with a conviction that their experience is an improvement on the generation before them. However, unlike technology and world views, the same fashion trends are revived and the only ‘improvement’ is a name change. Growing up in the early 2000’s, a strapless top made of a figure-hugging material that either showed that off your belly button or was tucked into your pants was called a ‘Boobtube’. Whereas now, this name is a thing of the past and the top is now referred to as a Bandeau. The semantic shift is also apparent with ‘Three Quarter’s’ now evolving into Jorts, ‘Culottes’ becoming Skorts, and ‘Capris’ labelled as Pedal Pushers- signalling modernity and cultural relevance. What’s more, the lingo will continue to evolve when the upcoming generation do away with what will then be popular terms. In today’s OOTW, I paired my Leather Jacket with a White Bodysuit, Nude Cargo Pants and Black Sneakers, for an athleisure inspired casual look.
