The Backyard Model

Writer's picture: akawuahakawuah

There was once a time when I did not understand runway fashion and designs. Models always had peculiar make-up, never-done-before hairstyles, and what I thought at the time… were outrageous pieces. I always asked myself and anyone who cared to listen “Who would wear that?” Don’t get me wrong, I still struggle to understand some designs, but with the growing interest in style, and actively checking for designers who make pieces I actually fancy…I have a bit more appreciation for the world of fashion and style.

The one thing I always remember is seeing models dressed in complicated designs and a coat like garment on top, while wearing a skirt made of an unnecessary amount of yards (fabric). Now looking back, I think some of those designers had models dressed in an an ordinary oversized coat much like the one I pull out my wardrobe, every time the temperature drops below 15 degrees.

Now, in my own way, I am the models of old who adorned the oversized coats, not realising that the dramatics were in a way... a production...a way of marketing individual pieces. Anywho…thanks to the designers who back then had the foresight of the Melton Trench coat. It is keeping me warm and stylish these cold Spring days.

Don't forget about the pieces designed to be an outfit but we're made of less material than a bikini, those ones I still don't quite understand.
