Fedora's...The hat of all hats

Over the past few seasons, we have seen the revival of straw hats, caps, and bucket hats. The big straw hat which used to be worn at the beach can now be seen at malls, the city centre and on the occasional head at parks. Bucket hats have also featured a lot this season with new pastel colours coming into their own, and not forgetting the floral prints which are increasingly being embraced by men and women. But my all-time favourite which continues to be a timeless piece is the Fedora.

I spent a few months (if not a year) admiring the Fedora from a far before deciding to purchase one for myself. I can recall countless sessions on Pinterest searching for 'black girl fedora outfits' for when I finally got over the non-existent hurdle that prevented me from getting one. And I think it is safe to say that the Fedora is not as commonly worn compared to bucket hats or caps. Although, when you wear a Fedora, your outfit is guaranteed a few looks.

The perfectly structured, flat brimmed and felt material hat is distinguishable by the indented crown, and the belt or ribbon that lines the base of the crown. Back in the day in Western societies, men wore Fedora's with suits when attending formal occasions. These days, Fedora's are suitable for easy and relaxed settings such as a day out with friends, and are worn by men and women. During summer, the hat goes well with a printed T-shirt, a pair of jeans and loafers; for those aiming for a more classic style look. If you are feeling the summer vibe, the Fedora pairs well with an off-shoulder top or summer dress. My personal favourite is wearing the hat with a pair of skinny jeans and a slightly loose-fitting button-up shirt; which gives off a 'minimalist' and 'effortless' look which I love. Moreover, this look is the perfect outfit for the transition into Autumn. I get joy from knowing that as the season changes, I do not need to store away my Fedora because it is just as suitable for Winter days. Pair it with a blazer or a knitted cardigan, and ankle boots, and you are good to go. The other amazing thing about Fedora's is that they are easily accessible and can be inexpensive at selected clothing stores. So...if you are looking to change up your wardrobe, the timeless Fedora is an item you should consider purchasing.

I would like to wish all the women a Happy International Women's Day. May it be filled with love and kindness!

I haven't been able to get over the hurdle of buying hats. I've got a nice big open sunhat which was an easy buy. I guess for me the hurdle to buying other hats is a combination of not finding the right size (because one size does not fit all when it comes to hats) and finding one I feel suits my head and face. So I still admire them from afar.

And the problem about size is that the hat needs to accommodate your hair so you definitely right about finding the right size. You can admire from afar😄, but the day will come when you will see a hat you really want, that you will not leave the shop without it!😎🤠

Next up, how to store your hats so that they don't get ruined and shapeless. Please and thank you. . . I once bought a nice straw hat and was crushed when I found it under the weight of my clothes crumbled and shapeless. Happy international women's day to you too Akay ✨
