Colour Block

In the Twenty-tens, we were introduced to ‘Colour Blocking’ which was a new fashion trend that spread like wildfire. Fast fashion delivered a wide range of skinny jeans in every colour imaginable. Women and girls were strutting the streets of South Africa in red, blue, green, white, and even yellow jeans, while pairing it with a top of a contradictory colour. It was a fashion trend that gripped everyone in varying degrees. Some entered the unknown by exploring with a new colour jean, while sticking with a top of a safe colour…not to look too outrageous. Meanwhile others fully embraced the trend and created every colour combination possible. After a few months, naturally…the trend died down and people were left wearing faded skinny’s and droopy tops, remnants of a fashion trend that once was. These days, colour blocking is not much of a trend, but is adopted within many people’s personal style…modernized if you will. It is done with a bit more thought, confidence, and a level of elegance. The colour combinations work, and even if you do not fancy a look on yourself, there is an appreciation for how someone else has adorned their fit. This week, I wore my White & Maroon Ruana with a White Long-sleeved Shirt, Blue Skinny Jeans, and Black Matilda Heels.

I remember that trend. I joined in and got myself powder blue jeans and at some point powder grey jeans. I would regularly pair these with a purple windbreak jacket and sneakers and feel like the coolest kid ever! 😂
